Assumption #3: Contracts are awarded based on costs, keep your costs low.
Reality: While, I do believe this is true to a degree, I’ve learned it’s important to know what you’re truly worth. What might seem like a high fee on the front end can actually save my clients more time and more money on the back end.
My advice: Have confidence in the service you provide – and make sure you’re charging for what your services are worth, and most importantly, what your time is worth.
Assumption #4: If you’ve succeded at most everything in your life, running your own business will be a breeze.
Reality: If it were easy, everyone would be doing it.
My Advice: My friend Steve recently posted this on his status: “I must admit, it is easier to be a sheep, it’s just not my style.” He’s right, it would be easier to take our talents elsewhere, but putting the blood, sweat and tears into chasing a dream will undoubtedly fill you up so much more.
